Success in life is a matter not so much of talent as of concentration and perseverance.
C. W. Wendte

Success comes from knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.
John Wooden 1910-, American Basketball Coach

People who work together will win, whether it be against complex football defenses, or the problems of modern society.
Vince Lomabardi

Success means doing the best we can with what we have. Success is the doing, not the getting -- in the trying, not the triumph, Success is a personal standard -- reaching for the highest that is in us -- becoming all that we can be. If we do our best, we are a success. Success is the maximum utilization of the ability that you have.
Zig Ziglar American Sales Trainer, Author, Motivational Speaker

If a man has talent and cannot use it, he has failed. If he has talent and uses only half of it, he has half failed. If he has a talent and learns somehow to use the whole of it, he has gloriously succeeded, and won a satisfaction and a triumph few men ever know.
Thomas Wolfe 1931-, American Author, Journalist

Needs Analysis

Costs just £10 per person when paid for online.

The needs analysis questionnaire will provide you with:

  • Individual CPD training plan for everyone who completes it identifying the key concepts and areas of learning they need to focus on with PDM copied in (can be used in management interviews).
  • A list of what Forever Learning booklet will help them to develop their knowledge and understanding in an identified area of need. This will provide excellent preparatory work before a course or development if the appropriate course is not accessible.
  • Appropriate guidance material to help them develop their knowledge and understanding.
  • Strategic overview for the training needs of your partnership that identifies: the key concepts and areas of learning; the appropriate Forever Learning booklet; name of the individual; their release days (SSCos only), priority order of their training and the partnership (this is if the LDA/ LA/CSP need a copy of the strategic overview).

As the PDM you have the responsibility to manage the CPD needs of your workforce (do you have the time). You have been given a training budget to meet the needs of your workforce but how do you know and what evidence do you have that your training programme is meeting the needs of your team.

As a PDM how do you know what the training needs of your SSCOs and PLTs are? Have you ever conducted an in depth survey of every member of your workforce? How do you choose what courses are appropriate for them to attend? Is your training budget being used effectively and helping your team of people to develop their knowledge and understanding of the work of the school sports partnership in priority order? What evidence do you have that the courses the SSCO/PLT's attend are the ones they need the most?

The continuing professional development of your SSCOs and PLTs is a vital part of your development strategy. The more your people know and understand the more they will be able to take responsibility for the objectives and targets included in the Partnership/family/primary action plans. Your organisation, management and progress will become more efficient if the people you manage are continually developing what they know and understand about the work of the school sports partnership. For example what does your team know about the vision for competition? Do they understand what integrated, appropriate and inclusive competition looks like? Do they understand how multi-skill clubs and academies fit into the competition structure and which young people they are targeted at? What of the JAE programme how can that be used to help and support gifted and talented young athletes?

CPD needs to be part of your strategic planning and as with School Sports Partnership Evaluation and Priorities Document you started with an audit to find out what the strengths and areas for development were in your schools and local community you also need to conduct a survey of the knowledge and understanding of your workforce.

Continuing Peoples Development has developed a needs analysis questionnaire which will identify the unique training needs of every person that takes the twenty minutes to complete. It will identify the bespoke training needs of each person in your team in priority order. They complete the questionnaire and get immediate feedback on their training needs. Such information will help them as an individual to select and research the appropriate information that will develop their knowledge and understanding. It will provide you the PDM with an overview of the training needs of each individual in your team so you can make decisions about which courses you need to access.

The needs analysis gives you are starting point for each person in your team and identifies the areas for development and thus the training needs of each one. It will also identify their strengths which you may use when assigning responsibility to your team members. However you make use of the needs analysis it will help you and your team achieve the objectives and targets within your EPD.

Through engagement in the needs analysis process you are letting your SSCOs and PLTs know that you are committed to the ongoing training of your workforce. Investing in your people can only benefit the work of the School Sports Partnership as your workforce gains a greater contextual knowledge and understanding of the work of the School Sports Partnership. Your SSCO's/PLT's will be able to initiate manage and administer much of the work you currently drive as they develop a more strategic understanding of the work of the partnership.
