Sports do not build character. They reveal it.
John Wooden 1910-, American Basketball Coach

A successful person is a dreamer whom someone believed in.

Success means doing the best we can with what we have. Success is the doing, not the getting -- in the trying, not the triumph, Success is a personal standard -- reaching for the highest that is in us -- becoming all that we can be. If we do our best, we are a success. Success is the maximum utilization of the ability that you have.
Zig Ziglar American Sales Trainer, Author, Motivational Speaker

If a man has talent and cannot use it, he has failed. If he has talent and uses only half of it, he has half failed. If he has a talent and learns somehow to use the whole of it, he has gloriously succeeded, and won a satisfaction and a triumph few men ever know.
Thomas Wolfe 1931-, American Author, Journalist

The only person who is educated is the one who has learned how to learn and change.
Carl Rogers 1902-1987, American Psychotherapist

Forever Learning Booklets

The Forever Learning work booklets provide you with training that is:

  • Flexible – train when it suits you, and for as long as you like;
  • Differentiated – work at your level and at your pace;
  • Accessible – you do not need to be at a certain place at a certain time to meet your CPD needs. The booklets are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The training of the SSCo/PLT workforce currently and in the past has been a logistical challenge because:

  • The workforce has different training needs and priorities;
  • The workforce has different levels of experience and understanding of the work of School Sport Partnerships;
  • Each partnership has different specific priorities;
  • The workforce has different release days.

Overcoming these barriers has been difficult. To overcome these barriers, Continuing Peoples Development has co-authored a series of e-learning work booklets which are related to the key concepts and areas of learning necessary for the SSCO's and PLT's.

This series of Forever Learning booklets are designed to provide flexible, differentiated and accessible training courses. All the SSCo/PLT needs to complete the booklets is access to the internet and a determination and commitment to learn.

Click here for an example Forever Learning booklet - 'High Quality OSHL'.

They are flexible because each individual can work on them when they choose, when it is most convenient to them. E-learning recognises the individual is best placed to decide when they are ready and have the time to work on their professional development. They can spend an hour on a booklet, save their work and return to it one, two or three weeks later.

The booklets are differentiated because they allow the individual through guided discovery to “connect the learning” from the SSCo/PLTs starting point not a set of course objectives. The individual can work at a pace that suits their ability and experience. The booklets have a series of tasks to complete. The depth to which the tasks are completed will depend on the individual’s knowledge, understanding and experience. Whatever the starting point, all who engage in the process will increase their knowledge and understanding of Physical Education and Sport and its place on the whole school and national sporting agenda.

Every SSCO/PLT has different work commitments and time restraints not all of them can attend a course on a set date and time. The booklets are accessible 24 hours a day 365 days of the year. The e-learning booklets can be accessed when it suits the SSCO/PLT.

The booklets should take between 6-8 hours to complete. We would advise that the SSCo/PLTs complete one of these booklets per term but some may choose to do less or some may want to work at a quicker pace. It is all down to the individual.

Financially the booklets work out far cheaper than other methods of training. The booklets are not designed to replace training courses. However they will provide excellent pre-course preparation or a substitute should the course they need not be accessible. One of the greatest advantages of the booklets is they provide a solid foundation of learning irrespective of attending a set course or not.

The booklets have many useful tools to help the SSCO/PLT audit, develop and manage their work within the School Sports Partnership.

No one has to miss out on the opportunity to progress their knowledge and understanding of the key concepts and issues surrounding the work of the School Sports Partnership.
